#18 Kyle Obobaifo competed in his first game with Team Alberta at the 2024 WHL Cup last night. The NW United Pacific Projects U18 AAA Flames forward wears the #8 in Calgary and is part of an extremely talented group this week that includes some of Alberta brightest up and coming hockey stars.

It was a tough night for Team Alberta who trailed 5-0 at one point but came out flying in the 3rd period to make a game of it eventually falling 5-2 to Saskatchewan.

Team Alberta is back in action tonight at the Peavey Mart Centrium and the WHL expects the crowds to increase as the four regional teams play down to the Semi Finals Saturday. The Bronze Medal and Gold Medal games on Sunday. All four teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are extremely deep and led by some of the best managers and coaching staffs in Western Canada.

All the Western Hockey League teams scouting staffs are at the event as well parents, families and fans from across the provinces.

Players from Edge School, Prairie Hockey Academy, Northern Alberta Xtreme, St. Albert Raiders, Calgary IHA, Airdrie Bisons, Edmonton Oilers Junior, OHA Edmonton, NW Calgary Flames and the Red Deer Chiefs make up the Team Alberta lineup.

Their Head Scout Bobby Fox (Medicine Hat Tigers) has prepared a well-balanced lineup and is leaning on a veteran Coaching staff to lead Team Alberta. They are coached by Derrick Martin (Kelowna Rockets- Assistant Coach) and he is assisted by Fernie Ghostriders GM/Head Coach and AEHL alumnus Chad Scharff and Ryan Allen who is coaching this season with the Grande Prairie Storm in the AEHL.

The second day of the Western Hockey League (WHL) Cup will continue tonight in Red Deer and will dive in and take a closer look at all the Team Alberta players on Friday from Red Deer. Today at 4:15 p.m. at the Peavey Mart Centrium, BC will take on Saskatchewan followed by a matchup with between Alberta and Manitoba at 7 p.m.

On Friday action will continue with games between Saskatchewan and Manitoba and Alberta and British Columbia. The playoffs will take place Saturday and Sunday which have yet to be determined based on the remaining round-robin games.

The semifinals will be played on Saturday with the second seed taking on the third at 1:15 p.m. and the first seed facing the fourth at 4 p.m

In the opening games on Wednesday, British Columbia took down Manitoba 4-3 and Saskatchewan beat Alberta 5-2.

Thanks to the Western Hockey League for the media access last night to cover these great young players. Wishing all the prospects continued success in their seasons on the road to the WHL.
